Seeker vs. Practitioner View: Two Ways to Experience the Today Screen
Pandit Ji has two completely different home screens. Which one you see depends on your onboarding answer — and you can switch at any time. Here's what each shows and how to choose.
One of the least obvious things about Pandit Ji is that the Today tab can look completely different for two people who have the same app. That's intentional — there are two distinct home screen modes, and which one you see depends on how you answered the intent question during onboarding.
Practitioner View
The Practitioner view is the traditional dense panchang display. It shows all five limbs (tithi, nakshatra, yoga, karana, vara), precise sunrise and sunset times, Rahu Kaal, Gulika Kaal, Yamaganda Kaal, Abhijit Muhurat, today's festivals and observances, a daily mantra card, and quick-access chips for Choghadiya and Hora. You can also navigate to other days — swipe or tap the forward/back buttons to see tomorrow's panchang, or tap the calendar icon to jump to any date.
This view is suited for anyone who thinks in panchang terms — priests, practitioners, those who regularly consult muhurat, or anyone who wants the complete picture every day.
Seeker View
The Seeker view presents the same panchang data but through a different lens: three personalized guidance cards, each with a one-line "why" connecting today's panchang to a practical insight. A card might say "Labh Choghadiya at 10:15 AM — good window for a financial decision" or "Amrit Siddhi Yoga active — especially auspicious for new starts today."
Cards adapt over time based on your feedback — a thumbs-up or thumbs-down on any card teaches the app what content resonates with you. You can also dismiss a card for the day if it isn't relevant. The card types include mantra, timing (auspicious windows to act), avoidance (Rahu Kaal or Chandrashtama warnings), and reflections tied to the tithi or nakshatra energy.
Which View Do You Have?
During onboarding, one of the steps asked "What brings you here?" Choosing "Guide others" or similar practitioner-oriented answers routes you to the Practitioner view. Seeker-oriented choices (daily guidance, understanding your chart, auspicious timings) route you to the Seeker view.
How to Switch
Either view has a switch pill — a small "Switch to [other view]" control — visible on the Today screen. Tap it to toggle between the two. The change is instant and persists across app restarts. There's no right or wrong choice — use whichever surface gives you what you need from the panchang each morning. Many users switch between them seasonally or based on how much panchang detail they want on a given day.
Pandit Ji gives you a live panchang, personal guidance from your birth chart, and muhurat timing — calculated for your exact location.
