Privacy Policy

Short version: Most data stays on your device. We only send information to our servers when strictly necessary to provide a feature. We do not sell your data, ever.

Pandit Ji (“we”, “our”, or “the app”) is a Hindu panchang and astrology app built for personal, spiritual use. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, why we collect it, and how it is protected. Effective date: April 12, 2026.

1. Information We Collect

Information you provide

  • First name (optional) — Personalises your daily horoscope greeting. Stored on your device only.
  • Date, time & place of birth (optional) — Calculates your Janma Nakshatra and Janma Rashi for an accurate horoscope. Stored on your device; sent to servers only when generating your horoscope.
  • Current location (city, coordinates, timezone) — Calculates accurate panchang timings for your local sunrise, tithi, muhurat, etc. Stored on your device only; coordinates sent to backend only when fetching panchang data.

Information collected automatically

  • Anonymous usage events — Screen views and feature taps, to understand which features are useful. Handled by a third-party analytics provider.
  • Ad identifiers (free users only) — Used to display relevant ads via Google AdMob.
  • Calendar feed token — Allows your calendar app to subscribe to your personalised panchang feed. Stored on our backend; never linked to personal identity.
  • Purchase receipts — Verify Pro subscription purchases. Handled by Apple App Store / Google Play.

2. How We Use Your Information

  • To calculate and display your daily panchang (tithi, nakshatra, muhurat, etc.)
  • To generate your personalised AI-powered daily horoscope
  • To provide your iCal / Google Calendar panchang subscription feed
  • To display relevant advertisements to free-tier users (via Google AdMob)
  • To understand aggregated, anonymous usage patterns so we can improve the app
  • To process and verify in-app purchases

We do not use your information for profiling, targeted advertising outside AdMob's standard contextual ads, or any automated decision-making that affects you legally or in a similarly significant way.

3. Data Storage & Retention

The majority of your data — name, birth info, location preference, horoscope cache, app settings — is stored only on your device using secure local storage. It is never uploaded to our servers unless a specific feature requires it (see §1).

Server-side data (calendar feed token) is retained as long as your calendar feed is active. You can revoke it at any time from the app's Calendar Integration screen, which immediately deletes the token from our servers.

If you use the Reset App feature in Settings, all locally stored data is erased from your device immediately.

4. Third-Party Services

  • Cloud backend — Hosts the panchang calculation service, horoscope generation, and calendar feed.
  • AI content service — Generates daily horoscope and guidance text from your birth data.
  • Analytics provider — Anonymous product analytics (usage events, screen views — no personal data).
  • Google AdMob — Advertisements shown to free-tier users. See policies.google.com/privacy.
  • Apple App Store / Google Play — In-app purchase processing, subject to their respective privacy policies.

5. Children's Privacy

Pandit Ji is not directed at children under the age of 13 (or 16 in the EU/UK). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

6. Your Rights

Depending on your country of residence, you may have the right to:

  • Access — the personal data we hold about you.
  • Delete — your data. Use the Reset App feature in Settings to clear all on-device data immediately.
  • Object — to or restrict certain processing.
  • Portability — your panchang and horoscope data is stored locally and you can export it at any time.

For any data held server-side (e.g. calendar feed token), contact us at the email below and we will process your request within 30 days.

7. Advertising & Opt-Out

Free users see ads served by Google AdMob. You can limit ad tracking via your device settings:

  • iOS: Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking → disable “Allow Apps to Request to Track”
  • Android: Settings → Privacy → Ads → “Delete advertising ID”

Pro subscribers see no advertisements.

8. Security

We use industry-standard security practices including encrypted connections (TLS) for all data in transit. No security method is 100% guaranteed, but we take reasonable precautions to protect your information.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the effective date at the top of the page. Continued use of the app after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
