How to Use the Muhurat Finder to Score Any Date
The Muhurat Finder scores every date on a 100-point Vedic scale across six factors simultaneously. Here's how to search ahead, filter by occasion, and read the scores.
Finding the right muhurat used to mean calling a pandit and waiting for a callback. The Muhurat Finder in Pandit Ji lets you search weeks or months ahead, filtering by occasion type, and see every date scored instantly — so you can compare options and pick the best window for what you need.
Opening the Muhurat Finder
Open the Muhurat Finder from the Guidance tab — tap the Muhurat Finder card — or from quick links on the Today screen. You'll see a month view with dates color-coded by auspiciousness. Green dates are strong muhurat days; amber dates are mixed; grey or red dates have significant inauspicious factors.
Setting Your Occasion
Tap the occasion selector at the top to filter for your specific activity. Available occasion types are:
- Griha Pravesh — housewarming / home entry
- Vahana — vehicle purchase or blessing
- Vyapar — business start or new venture
- Yatra — travel or journey start
- Sampatti — property or investment purchase
- Naya Kaam — new work or job start
Wedding muhurats are handled separately in the Kundali Milan (Vivah) flow, and Namkaran dates are found in the dedicated Namkaran screen — both include their own integrated muhurat search personalized to the individuals involved.
Each occasion type applies its own ruleset — for example, Griha Pravesh checks for specific favorable tithis and nakshatras for housewarmings, while Vyapar applies the panchang rules suited for commercial beginnings.
Reading the Score Breakdown
Tap any date to see its full score breakdown. The 100-point score is built from six factors:
- Tithi — Is today's lunar day auspicious for this occasion?
- Nakshatra — Is the Moon's nakshatra favorable?
- Yoga — Is an auspicious yoga (Amrit Siddhi, Sarvaartha Siddhi, etc.) active?
- Vara — Is the weekday favorable for this occasion?
- Choghadiya — What is the quality of the available Choghadiya windows?
- Planetary positions — Are Jupiter and Venus unencumbered (not combust or retrograde)?
The detail view also flags any specific inauspicious periods to avoid during that day, like Rahu Kaal or Vishti Karana.
Personalizing with Your Birth Profile
If you've added a birth profile, the Muhurat Finder adds a personal layer. Dates when you're in Chandrashtama, or when your Tarabalam is inauspicious, get a personal warning flag even if the universal panchang score is high. A high-scoring date that is also personally favorable for you shows a "✓ Personally Strong" indicator.
Finding the Best Time Within a Day
Once you've selected a date, scroll down to the "Best Times Today" section. This shows the Choghadiya windows and Abhijit Muhurat for that day, ranked by quality. For ceremonies with a specific start time, target the Amrit or Shubha Choghadiya window before noon when possible.
Search Duration and Pro Access
Free users can search up to 6 months ahead (1M, 3M, 6M options). Pro users unlock 12-month and 18-month search windows — useful for long-horizon planning like weddings booked well in advance or business launches timed to an auspicious annual period. Use the forward arrow on the month view to browse; scoring is pre-calculated so browsing is instant.
Pandit Ji gives you a live panchang, personal guidance from your birth chart, and muhurat timing — calculated for your exact location.
