How to Set Up Your Birth Chart and Family Profiles in Pandit Ji
Adding your birth data unlocks personal Tarabalam, Chandrabalam, Kundali, and Ask the Pandit features. Here's how to set up your profile and add your whole family.
Pandit Ji works out of the box as a location-aware panchang — but adding your birth data is what transforms it into a genuinely personal Vedic guide. This unlocks Tarabalam, Chandrabalam, Chandrashtama alerts, your Janma Kundali, Mahadasha tracking, and personalized Ask the Pandit answers.
Adding Your Birth Profile
Tap the Guidance tab in the bottom navigation, then find and tap the Parivar card. If this is your first time, you'll see a banner prompting you to add yourself. Tap "Add Yourself" and enter:
- Name — Any name you'll recognize (your own name, a nickname, etc.)
- Date of birth — Day, month, year
- Time of birth — As precise as possible. Even a 15-minute uncertainty can shift the rising sign. If you don't know the exact time, enter your best estimate and note the uncertainty.
- Place of birth — City and country. Pandit Ji looks up the coordinates and timezone automatically.
Tap Save. Your Janma Nakshatra, Lagna, and Moon sign are calculated instantly and shown on your profile card.
What If I Don't Know My Birth Time?
You can still add a profile without a birth time. You'll lose Lagna (rising sign) accuracy and some Kundali house placements, but your Janma Nakshatra, Moon sign, and Mahadasha will still be calculated correctly — these depend only on your birth date and place, not the exact time. Tarabalam and Chandrabalam will also work normally.
Adding Family Members (Parivar)
Pandit Ji supports unlimited family profiles. Back on the Parivar screen, tap the user-plus icon in the header or "Add Another" at the bottom to add each family member. For each person you'll specify their relation (Spouse, Mother, Father, Child, Sibling, Friend, or Other). Common additions:
- Spouse — for Kundali Milan compatibility and personalized muhurat
- Children — for Namkaran guidance, their personal panchang, and school/activity timing
- Parents — for their Chandrashtama alerts and health-related muhurat questions
Each profile gets its own complete panchang experience. Switching between family members is one tap from the profile selector on the Today screen or the Ask the Pandit screen.
Switching the Active Profile
On the Parivar screen, each person card has a "View Chart" button and a "🙏 Ask About" button to access their Kundali or direct an Ask the Pandit question to them. The Today screen personal indicators always reflect the active profile — switch by returning to Parivar and tapping a different member's card.
Privacy: Where Is This Data Stored?
All birth data is stored locally on your device only. It is never uploaded to Pandit Ji's servers. The only time any birth data leaves your device is when you choose to include it in an Ask the Pandit question — and that can be disabled in Settings → AI Privacy. You remain in complete control.
Editing or Deleting a Profile
To edit a profile, tap the pencil icon on any profile card. To delete, tap the trash icon on the member's card. Deleting a profile removes all its locally stored data immediately.
Pandit Ji gives you a live panchang, personal guidance from your birth chart, and muhurat timing — calculated for your exact location.
