How to Check Today's Choghadiya and Hora in Pandit Ji
Choghadiya and Hora give you a practical timing grid for every hour of the day. Here's how to read them in Pandit Ji and use them for everyday timing decisions.
The Choghadiya and Hora screens in Pandit Ji give you a real-time view of the quality of every time slot throughout the day and night. Once you get used to checking them, it takes about 10 seconds to find the right window for anything you need to start.
Finding the Choghadiya and Hora Screens
Both screens are accessible from the Guidance tab (tap the Choghadiya or Hora cards) or from quick-access chips on the Today screen. Choghadiya shows the day/night grid; Hora is a separate screen. Each has 16 and 24 slots respectively.
On the Choghadiya screen, the day section shows 8 segments from sunrise to sunset and the night section covers sunset to the next sunrise.
Reading the Choghadiya Grid
Each segment shows:
- The time range (calculated from your exact sunrise/sunset)
- The Choghadiya name (Amrit, Shubha, Labha, Chal, Udveg, Kaal, Rog)
- A color indicator: green for auspicious (Amrit, Shubha, Labha), blue for neutral/travel (Chal), and red for inauspicious (Udveg, Kaal, Rog)
The currently active segment is highlighted with a pulsing indicator so you can instantly see where you are in the day.
Quick Reference: What Each Choghadiya Is Good For
- Amrit — Best for everything. Use for any important new start.
- Shubh — Auspicious. Good for ceremonies, purchases, creative work.
- Labh — Profit. Best for business, financial decisions, trade.
- Chal — Movement. Best for travel departures, commuting, meetings that involve moving around.
- Udveg — Government, authority. Suitable for dealing with officials, legal matters, bold action. Avoid for peaceful or new ventures.
- Kaal — Avoid for new starts. Can be used for work that benefits from intensity.
- Rog — Avoid for new starts. Associated with disease and obstacles.
The Hora Screen
Open the Hora screen from the Guidance tab to see all 24 planetary hours for the day. Each hour is ruled by a planet in the Chaldean sequence starting from the day's ruling planet at sunrise. Quality ratings: Jupiter hours are Excellent; Venus, Mercury, and Moon hours are Good; Sun and Mars are Neutral; Saturn is Inauspicious.
Hora is finer-grained than Choghadiya — it can help you pick between two Amrit Choghadiya windows by identifying which one also falls during a Jupiter or Venus Hora.
Practical Examples
Starting a business call: Find the next Labha or Amrit window and schedule accordingly — even a 15-minute shift can move the call into a more favorable segment.
Leaving for a flight: Check Chal Choghadiya for your departure from home. If Rahu Kaal overlaps your planned departure, consider leaving 20 minutes earlier or later to clear it.
Making a significant purchase: Target Shubha or Amrit. Avoid Kaal and Rog for completing transactions or signing agreements.
