Walkthrough: Tracking Your Mahadasha and Antardasha in Pandit Ji
The Dasha Timeline shows your complete Vimsottari sequence from birth to the next 20+ years. Here's how to read it, interpret your current period, and plan around upcoming shifts.
One of the most practically powerful features in Pandit Ji is the Mahadasha Timeline — a complete Vimsottari Dasha sequence calculated from your exact birth nakshatra. Once you understand which planetary period you're in and what's coming next, the broad themes of your life come into much sharper focus.
Finding the Dasha Timeline
Open your Kundali from the Guidance tab or from a Parivar member's "View Chart" button. Scroll below the planet positions table to find the Mahadasha timeline — it's a Pro feature and won't appear for free users. Tap any Mahadasha bar to expand it.
Reading the Timeline
The timeline displays your Mahadasha periods as horizontal bars, each labeled with the ruling planet and its duration. The bars are arranged chronologically from your birth to age 120 (the full Vimsottari cycle).
- The highlighted bar is your current Mahadasha.
- A vertical line marks today's date within the timeline.
- Each bar shows the Mahadasha lord, start date, and end date.
- Tap any Mahadasha bar to expand its Antardasha (sub-period) breakdown.
Three Levels of Planetary Periods
Tapping a Mahadasha bar expands it into 9 Antardasha (sub-period) segments. Tapping an Antardasha further expands into Pratyantar Dashas — the third level of sub-periods. The currently active period is highlighted in saffron at every level. This gives you the precise planetary combination shaping the present moment — for example, "Jupiter Mahadasha / Saturn Antardasha / Mercury Pratyantar" each add their own layer of influence.
Interpreting Your Current Period
Below the timeline, Pandit Ji displays a brief interpretation of your current Mahadasha-Antardasha combination. This covers:
- The general themes associated with both planets
- How those themes interact (supportive, complementary, or in tension)
- The approximate remaining duration of the Antardasha
- What the next Antardasha shift brings
This interpretation is based on general Jyotisha principles and the planets' natural significations. For a fully personalized reading that factors in how those planets are placed in your specific chart, use Ask the Pandit — ask something like "What should I expect from my current Jupiter-Saturn period given my birth chart?"
Planning Around Dasha Shifts
Major life decisions benefit enormously from Dasha awareness. If you're considering a career change, know whether you're moving into or out of a Mercury or Saturn Mahadasha. If you're planning a business launch, know whether your next Antardasha shift (which might happen in 8 months) supports or complicates that kind of expansion.
The timeline makes these shifts visible and dateable — rather than vague astrological periods, you can see the exact month when your next Antardasha begins and prepare accordingly.
Viewing Family Members' Timelines
Switch the active profile to any Parivar member to view their Dasha Timeline. This is especially useful for parents of young children — seeing a child's Mahadasha sequence from birth helps you understand the themes shaping different phases of their development.
Pandit Ji gives you a live panchang, personal guidance from your birth chart, and muhurat timing — calculated for your exact location.
