When two families sit down to discuss a marriage, one of the first questions in many Hindu households is "have you done the kundali matching?" Kundali Milan (also called Guna Milan or Ashtakoot Milan) is a systematic method from Jyotisha that compares two birth charts across eight specific dimensions to assess compatibility. Far from being a simple pass/fail test, it's a nuanced framework that reveals the nature of different aspects of a couple's relationship.

The Ashtakoot System

Ashtakoot means "eight factors." Each factor (kuta) has a maximum point value, and the total possible score is 36.
